Sunday’s service was followed by an appreciation luncheon (pizza) for Rev Gary Ponder Williams and his family. The after meal “program” was full of various presentations.
First, the Threads of Love presented Gary and Jodi with a prayer shawl and afghan:
Then there was the care package for their son, Andrew, for his 20-hour drive back to Orange County, CA.
Gary was then presented with a Stole made of fabric from the Congo, marking the 100th anniversary of the UMC in the Congo — which also happens to coincide with the 100th anniversary of AUMC.
All the children and young adults — comprising those who had been baptized, or gone through confirmation, married, etc. — came up and sang “I am a promise” and then presented him with a banner that read “Hands Down, You’re the Best”.
The church then presented them with a gift card, accompanied by a poetic tribute.
