Souper Bowl of Caring

Today is another short photography post. As those who care about professional sports (which excludes me) know, today is the Super Bowl.

For those of us at Avondale United Methodist Church, that means two more things. First, Super Bowl weekend is when we sponsor the annual Souper Bowl of Caring, where we raise/collect food for the church food pantry. The first half took place at Festival Foods. during the hours of 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, people contributed 152 items for the Seahawks and 151 for the Patriots. During the second half of the competition, from 8:30 a.m.-noon Sunday at the church, people contributed 92 items for the Seahawks vs. 75 for the Patriots. So we will see if the Seahawks win this year, per our forecast.

The second item is the annual soup cookoff fundraiser for the youth.  This year 11 different soups were provided by church folk, that people got to sample and eat and vote on. I didn’t stay until all the votes were counted, but hopefully someone will be able to add and share the final results — if it doesn’t get overshadowed by the game this evening.

  1. I attempted to comment but am not sure if it went through:

For this year’s Soup Cook-Off, we had a TIE between Kathryn Zibell and Debbie Wear –  congratulations to both of our winners with a big THANK YOU to all of our participants.   Thank you! Mark Whitaker mobile/text: (blog)
